Three Allegories on Be(com)ing a Woman

“Time passed, and the Wizard's discipline slackened further. Her once-mighty
wards, already weakened by her lack of care, began to falter entirely. Greater and
greater demons began to pour forth, in greater and greater numbers. This Demonic
vanguard, sensing the Wizards weakness, did congregate at the base of her mighty
tower, biding their time.

But they still were not mighty, and not many, so the Wizard did not care.”

Three Allegories on Be(com)ing a Woman is the first written work of fiction I have published since my old fanfiction-writing days. It is a recounting of the struggles I have faced in my own gender transition, as told through the medium of a fairy tale.

Long, long ago, in a land far, far away, there once was a Village. This Village was a pleasant place to live; the people were kind, and the harvests were bountiful. The townsfolk enjoyed their days in the sun, working in the fields to earn their bread.

All of this changed, however, when the Demons invaded. A great and terrible portal tore through reality, pouring forth evil creatures from beyond, hell-bent on ransacking the Village and despoiling its riches.

This threat would not go unanswered for long: soon, a trio of Heroes would rise up to meet the Demonic hordes in the defense of the Village: the mighty Wizard, casting the Demons back through great works of magic; the implacable Mason, constructing great fortifications to keep the evils at bay, and the beloved Warrior, whose skill at arms first kept the Village safe.

Each of these Three Heroes has their own strengths, and their own flaws: they are an exploration of my own triumphs and struggles in my journey towards womanhood. It is a deeply personal work, and one that is very dear to my heart.
